6 minute read

Introduction

Google has continuously been able to carve out a space for itself with its Pixel series in the competitive world of smartphones. These gadgets are renowned for their outstanding camera capability, stock Android interface, and regular software upgrades. Now that Google is getting ready to introduce its newest products, the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the tech world is ablaze with excitement. Let's go into the specifics of these much anticipated smartphones, such as their cost, capabilities, and expected release date.

 Price

Although the cost of the Pixel 8 series is still unknown, we can draw some assumptions based on the model's predecessor and some leaks. The base model of the Pixel 7 series with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage launched at $699. The starting price for the Pixel 7 Pro in that configuration was $899. The base variant of the Pixel 7a with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage started at $449.

We can expect the Pixel 8 series to have similar or slightly higher prices than the Pixel 7 series, depending on the market and availability. However, Google is known for offering flagship features at a lower price than its competitors, so we can expect the Pixel 8 series to be more affordable than other flagship smartphones in 2024.

According to a leaker on X, the Pixel 8 series will be priced as follows:

- Pixel 8 (128GB) – $799
- Pixel 8 (256GB) – $859
- Pixel 8 Pro (128GB) – $1099
- Pixel 8 Pro (256GB) – $1159
- Pixel 8 Pro (512GB) – $1299

Features

    Processor and Performance

One of the main features of these phones is the processor, which is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, also known as Tensor G3.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is the company's upcoming flagship SoC and will include a Cortex-X4 prime core in addition to 5 Cortex-A720 cores and 2 Cortex-A520 cores in a new 1+5+2 core architecture. The Adreno 750 will take care of the GPU side and should provide some substantial performance improvements.
The performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is anticipated to be faster and more fluid, with improved AI capabilities, gaming and graphics, and battery economy.

With up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will likewise boast remarkable RAM and storage combinations. These requirements will guarantee lag-free operation and seamless multitasking.

    Camera

The Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor, a 50-megapixel sensor with up to 100MP imaging, will be used as the primary camera in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, according to a report by Android Authority. This sensor is bigger than the 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor that was utilized in the Pixel 7 series. Better low-light performance, dynamic range, and detail should be the outcome of the increased sensor size.

The Pixel 8 Pro will also have a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor as its ultra-wide camera, a 48MP telephoto camera with up to 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The Pixel 8 will have a dual rear camera setup, consisting of a 50MP main sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor.

    Display

According to a web search result, A 6.2-inch flat display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz will be featured on the Pixel 8. A 6.7-inch curved display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz will be featured on the Pixel 8 Pro. Both displays will include an ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor, and HDR capability.

    Design

The metal frame and glass back of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will give them a sleek, contemporary appearance. The phones' backs will have a separate camera bar that will contain the flash and rear cameras. The matte finish of the remainder of the back will be in contrast to the bright metal finish of the camera bar. Every model's camera bar will be different in shape. The Pixel 8 will feature a square cutout for the cameras, while the Pixel 8 Pro will have a pill-shaped cutout.

The front of the phones will feature a punch-hole selfie camera, which will be located at the top center of the display. The phones will also have stereo speakers, a USB-C port, and a fingerprint scanner on the back. The phones will not have a headphone jack or a microSD card slot.

    Battery

The Pixel 8 will include a 4,485mAh battery with 30W fast charging and wireless charging capability, according to a search engine result. The slightly bigger 5,000mAh battery in the Pixel 8 Pro will support 45W fast charging as well as wireless charging. These technical details imply that the Pixel 8 series will provide quick and practical charging choices for those who require extended battery life.

    5G Connectivity

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will support both the mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G bands, which are the two main forms of 5G technology, according to a search engine result. Compared to mmWave 5G, which delivers faster speeds but a shorter operating range and more interference, sub-6GHz 5G has greater coverage and better penetration but is slower. Depending on the availability and strength of the signal, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be able to switch between these two forms of 5G.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will also support Wi-Fi 6E, which is an extension of the Wi-Fi 6 standard that uses the 6GHz band for faster and more stable wireless connections. Wi-Fi 6E can offer up to four times more bandwidth and less congestion than Wi-Fi 6, which uses the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

The release date

Although the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro's release date has not yet been confirmed, we can make some assumptions based on previous launch occasions. Google typically reveals its premium smartphones around October, with the launch party occurring in the middle to end of the month. Following this, usually in November or December of the same year, is a global launch.

However, a Weibo tipster claims that Google may bring forward the launch date to before November 11—the well-known Singles' Day shopping festival in China. According to the tip, this choice may have been motivated by the popularity of the Pixel 7. If this is the case, the global launch may also be pushed back.

Based on these rumors, we can estimate that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could be launched in early November in China, and possibly in late November or early December globally. Of course, this is subject to change depending on Google's official announcement. We will keep you updated with more information as it becomes available. Stay tuned!
